Painting self-portraits offers me a way of seeing myself that goes beyond how others perceive me. In this space, my body becomes more than an object - it becomes a landscape of colour, form, and texture. I take time with each line, each gesture, learning to appreciate the complexity of my own image and developing a relationship with myself that feels grounded, powerful, and whole.

This process is intimate, but it's also political. By painting my own image, often in ways that feel assertive or unfamiliar, I reclaim how my body is viewed. The direct gaze in these portraits invites a moment of reflection or discomfort for the viewer. Through these works, I offer a femme presence that resists being easily read or consumed, asking instead to be seen on my own terms.
